Submit a Manuscript

Before you submit your manuscript online at https://g3.msubmit.net, ensure that:

  1. All authors have read and approved the manuscript.
  2. All authors have read the data policy, and all data are in accordance with the policy.
  3. You have uploaded any supplemental material to figshare via the GSA Portal.
  4. You have included a statement on data and reagent availability.
  5. You have completed your Reagent Table (optional).
  6. The title is concise, informative, avoids jargon and includes the name of the organism under study.
  7. You have at least three keywords.
  8. You have prepared a 100-word article summary.
  9. You have prepared a cover letter (you'll upload this with your manuscript files).
  10. You have the names of any suggested or excluded editors (list of editors). You should list the reasons for the exclusion on the exclusion page.
  11. You have the name and contact details of any suggested or excluded reviewers. You can nominate up to four suggested reviewers.
  12. You have the full names, email addresses and institutions of all authors. You can also enter any author ORCID iDs if desired.
  13. You have the manuscript IDs of any companion papers, if this is the last of a group of papers being submitted together.
  14. If this is a resubmission or revision, you have prepared a detailed response to reviews.

To make the process easier, you can submit your entire manuscript (including tables, figures, legends) as a single PDF, with whatever fonts, line spacing, and format that you choose. This gives you a great deal of flexibility. If, however, you prefer to submit your manuscript as separate files, please have the following files ready to upload:

  1. A single manuscript file, excluding Figures/Tables, in Microsoft Word format. You can also submit a PDF of the manuscript file, including Figures/Tables. If you choose this option, you do not need to submit individual Figures and Tables described in (2) and (3) below.
  2. Individual Figure files in any of the following formats: .TIFF, .JPEG, .GIF, Microsoft PowerPoint, .EPS, or Adobe Illustrator. Each file should be less than 10 MB in size.
  3. Tables in Microsoft Word format.
  4. Supplemental and/or Data Files. These should be deposited via the GSA figshare portal, or a public repository of your choosing, and you should indicate that you have deposited data at figshare in your Data Availability Statement. We strongly recommend that you complete your figshare upload prior to finalizing your manuscript submission.
  5. Reagent Table (optional). If you have a Reagent table, please deposit it via the GSA figshare portal and indicate that you have done so in your Data Availability Statement.
  6. Cover Letter
  7. Response to reviewers (revisions/resubmissions only)
  8. Cover Art files (optional)

Please note: compressed (zip) folders not permitted.
